Take a chance on yourself

Do you want to change your job, realise a new project or give your life an entirely different direction?

Waiting for change to happen by chance will probably not do the trick. This might look like a negative at first. However, it actually gives you a lot of power, if you think about it. What it really means is that you do not have to accept to depend on some external factors and that you can take your destiny in your own hands.

First, make a choice.
Be clear about what it is that you want and let it be your “true north” when it comes to your dreams. Honestly, clarity is such an underestimated value. However, without it, chances are you’re heading in the wrong direction.

Chase your dreams.
Allow them, plan them, visualise them, execute them. Never give up on them.

BE the change, don’t let life just happen to you.
There is a huge quality in people making the best of the cards they’ve been dealt with in life. If you are one of them – congratulations, keep it up! However, whenever you do not like your cards or feel that there has to be more “out there”, take the bull by the horns and change your situation for the better.

Challenge yourself.
Allow yourself to grow by accepting all challenges, not just the ones you like. It will give you an invigorating feeling of achievement and prepare you for even more to come.

Channel your inner hero.
How about just taking the very first step towards your dream project – which would then inevitably lead to all the others? Without knowing what exactly the path will look like yet with the firm conviction that you will reach your goal.

Take charge of your life.
Be in charge of the change, every step of the way. It will give you a feeling of power and fulfilment even before you reach your goals. Enjoy being an opportunity taker as well as an opportunity creator.

Cherish what you already have.
I always find that “thank you” lists are a great tool to do that. Simply note all the things you are grateful for in your life. Once started, you will be surprised how much comes up and how long your list is getting, if you give it your attention.

Don’t forget to chill and chuckle regularly.
Doing all that, go easy on yourself. Challenging without reaping the fruit, chasing your dreams without celebrating their attainment ultimately leads to burnout and emptiness. After all, you will want to pause every now and then and enjoy the ride.

If at any point you find yourself stumbling or falling down: take a minute, stand up, dust yourself off, readjust your crown – and keep moving …
