We all see the world through our very own eyes. From our perspective, with our filters. A huge part of who we are and who we become is shaped by the culture we grow up in. This culture encompasses our education, the family we are raised in, the friends we make, the schools we attend, the society we live in, the nation we are born and/or live in, the language/s we speak.
Culture defines how we make sense of the world, without normally having to explain it. It is deeply anchored in our core being, and it tells us ‘how things are done’.
When confronted with another culture or other cultures, our world can sometimes turn upside down. Interactions can suddenly not be as straightforward as they used to be, misunderstandings can arise without obvious reason, personal and professional relationships can be more difficult to build as well as efficiency and productivity in teams decreased.
